Sky Sports: Club block player's proposed move to Newcastle United after deadline day talks

by Olly Hawkins ·

Harrison Ashby has become the latest Newcastle United target who won't be signing at St James' Park before tonight's 11pm deadline.

Sky Sports revealed earlier today that we'd entered talks with West Ham in a bid to bring the highly-rated 20-year-old to Tyneside, with The Times' Martin Hardy claiming the player was 'keen' to make the move.

However, North-East reporter Keith Downie has been told in the last few moments that a deal is off, as the Hammers are unwilling to lose the player this summer.

The right-back is out of contract at the end of the season - meaning this mat have been West Ham's last chance to secure a fee for the Scotland U21 star - however they appear reluctant to sell after failing to land defensive targets of their own today.

Potential replacement Ola Aina was an option for David Moyes, but a rejected bid for the former Fulham loanee was followed by him starting in Torino's clash with Roma tonight.

So, with Tielemans staying put and Ashby now a no-go, it looks like it may be loans or nothing for Newcastle as we approach the final three hours of the transfer window.
