Alexander Isak responds to injury doubts, reveals Alan Shearer texts and the striker he idolises
Speaking to NUFC TV, record signing Alexander Isak has discussed his Premier League debut, texts from Alan Shearer and looked ahead to his first outing at St James' Park - confirming he is FIT to face Crystal Palace after overcoming a dead leg.
In his first ever game in a black and white shirt, the Swede looked cool, calm and collected in front of goal as he scored the opener at Anfield past one of the greatest shot-stoppers in the world.
Despite the 2-1 defeat, Isak was ‘very happy’ to score in front of the travelling Newcastle supporters and admitted that his ‘first thought was to celebrate with them’.
The striker also revealed that he has been texting with ‘legend’ Alan Shearer and is currently ‘hoping we get a chance to speak as well’, adding that Thierry Henry is another player he's always looked up to - which could explain why he wears number 14!
Ahead of our clash with Crystal Palace, the 22-year-old claimed that he is fit and ready to go, insisting the dead leg he picked up at Anfield is ‘nothing to worry about.'

Isak when asked if he's fit to play against Palace:
"Yeh, yeh. It was just a dead leg.
"It's nothing to worry about."
Isak on his debut:
"I was excited to play my first game and be back on the pitch and obviously it was a big game on a difficult field to play so yeah I was excited.
"I was very happy (to score). Our supporters were so close, so my first thought was just to celebrate with them."
Isak on Newcastle fans and SJP ahead of his home debut:
“I think in the first few days you really notice how passionate the fans are and obviously I’m looking forward to seeing it live at St James’ Park as well.”
“I’ve been told a lot about the home games and the atmosphere so I’m really excited. I’ve been told that it’s really crazy and that the supporters are really passionate so I’m expecting it to be like that.”
Isak on the project under new owners:
“I’ve been told that this club has the ambitions to strive higher and for bigger things. It's a really interesting project and that’s a big part in why I joined.
“I think the most important thing is to fight for things and to see every game as an opportunity to win and I think if you do that and only think about winning the next game then you will see the chances you have of winning something.”
