Newcastle United star beats two Toon teammates to official Premier League award - "I'm very proud"

by Olly Hawkins ·

Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin has won the Premier League's Goal of the Month award for August following that stunning strike in our 1-1 draw at Wolves.

Three goal of the month nominations came our way for August's prize, with Fabian Schar's long range effort against Nottingham Forest and Kieran Trippier's stunning free kick also nominated.

However, Saint-Maximin has beaten both of his teammates to the award, which he is "very proud" to win for the first time in his career - even if he "prefers" goals where he "dribbles and scores!"

Sadly, the Frenchman looks set to miss tomorrow's game with a hamstring issue, however he's expected to return for our trip to Fulham after the international break.

Here's what the man himself told NUFC TV after winning the award:

"It's a tough trophy to win so I'm very proud.

"It was a nice goal, but it's always very difficult to win this trophy.

"You can see many players scored a goal goal, even at Newcastle with Faby and Tripps, so that's why I'm very proud to win that trophy and get a point for my team.

"It is the first time I've won this trophy in three years. It is one of the best ones I've scored, but I prefer when I dribble and score. But this one is a good one, so I'm happy with that!"

Elsewhere, it's no surprise to hear the Man City's Erling Haaland has won the Premier League's Player of the Month award, beating our very own Nick Pope to the prize after the in-form stopper was nominated for August.
