Surprise Jonjo Shelvey claims arrive and Howe reveals new signing who's impressed in training
Last month, Eddie Howe revealed that Jonjo Shelvey looked set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after an operation on his hamstring.
The midfielder was expected to be missing for the first half of the season, leaving some to wonder if he'd be left out of our initial 25-man squad.
However, not only was he included in Howe's 25 earlier this week, the manager has confirmed this morning that he's edging closer to an early return - claiming he could be fit to play again BEFORE Premier League football breaks for the World Cup in November.
He's back running out on the grass and making "good progress", with Howe revealing that he's in "really good physical condition."
Elsewhere, the NUFC boss has talked up Loris Karius following his arrival on a free transfer earlier this week, stating that the former Liverpool stopper has "trained very well" during his first few days at the club.
Here's what Howe's had to say on both, starting with his surprise update on Jonjo Shelvey:
"We hope (he could be fit for before the World Cup).
"Jonjo is doing well and making good progress.
"He's out on the grass running and he's looking good.
"He's in a really good physical condition and he's looking after himself so hopefully it wont be too long."
Eddie Howe on Loris Karius:
“Loris was the outstanding candidate when we looked at the goalkeepers available, and there was a very small pool.
"He’s a really good age and had some incredible experiences in his career.
"He's come in and trained very well.
"He's ready to play."
