Toon takeover continues as new Premier League award is won by another Newcastle United star

Newcastle United's Premier League takeover didn't stop with the Saudis, as not one but TWO of our players have picked up official awards today.

After Allan Saint-Maximin won the Goal of the Month for that stunning volley against Wolves, Nick Pope has now been named the first ever winner of the Premier League Save of the Month award.

The 6ft 6' stopper takes home the prize for that superb stop in August's 0-0 draw at Brighton, which saw him claw Adam Lallana's close-range header off the line and away to secure us a precious point and hard fought clean sheet at The Amex.

Pope was also nominated for the Player of the Month award, but that has unsurprisingly gone to Man City's Erling Haaland for his stunning start to life in England.

Here's what the big man told NUFC TV after picking up the award, followed by a clip of the brilliant save itself:

 "It's a nice little extra - something you don't quite expect. It's nice to be the first winner of the award.

"As a goalkeeper, if you make some saves and you get beat, you don't really have a great feeling that you take from the game afterwards.

"So to contribute to putting a point on the board definitely makes sure it means something."
