Summer signing withdraws from international duty to focus on Newcastle United - Report
As revealed by Lee Ryder, Sven Botman has withdrawn from the Holland U21 squad to focus on club football at Newcastle United.
The Dutchman was benched for Saturday's 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, as Eddie Howe opted for Dan Burn for the second time in our last three games.
It was a surprise call given Botman's ability on the ball - something which would've been useful to help break the lines against the Cherries - but it seems that decision has motivated him to spend the international break on Tyneside as he bids to regain his place for next weekend's trip to Fulham.
Here's what Howe had to say over the weekend after he selected Burn over the big Dutchman:
“We managed their load in the week where we had three games, so (yesterday) was bringing Dan back.
“I just feel his leadership skills and his experience, we need that in our team at the moment.
“Sven is going to be an outstanding player and will play many, many games for this club.
"We love him to bits, but Dan just gets the nod at the moment.”
