It's been a rollercoaster of a week for Nick Pope, but it's sadly ended in disaster for the Newcastle United number one.

In Jordan Pickford's absence, he started in England's Nations League clashes with Italy on Friday and Germany last night, however he's making the headlines for all the wrong reasons after a late error at Wembley gifted the Germans an 87th minute equalizer.

He struggled throughout, often looking shaky on the ball we tried to play out from the back, but his late clanger saw him spill a Serge Gnabry strike straight into the path of the Chelsea forward.

England came from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 thanks to a flurry of second half goals from Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Harry Kane, only for Germany's tap-in to deny Gareth Southgate a much needed win in our final game before the World Cup in Qatar.

Sadly, that error will almost certainly see Jordan Pickford start between the sticks - if fit - in our opening game against Iran, being a tough one to take for Pope ahead of his return to Tyneside. He's been brilliant all season and is generally a safe pair of hands, however that error and his struggles to play out from the back may be tough to bounce back from with the World Cup just weeks away.

Elsewhere, Kieran Trippier was an unused substitute once again - which isn't a bad thing given the number of injuries we've racked up over the international break!
