Newcastle considering shock move for out of contract England international - Report

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are considering a move for out-of-favour Manchester United defender Luke Shaw, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old has had a very up and down eight years at Old Trafford where he suffered from serious injuries and was cast aside and publicly ridiculed by manager Jose Mourinho.

However, under Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer, the full-back returned to his best form and worked his way back into the England squad where he played a key role in our Euro 2020 campaign, scoring three minutes into the final.

Now, with Erik Ten Haag preferring new signing Tyrell Malacia, the ex-Southampton man could be on the lookout for a move away with Newcastle monitoring the player’s position in January.

Although we have both Matt Targett and Dan Burn capable of playing in the left-back position, it is believed that our recruitment team view Shaw as an improvement on both of them.

While this may not be as important as finding a right-winger or central midfielder, Newcastle could be tempted to go for Shaw if a cut-price deal is on the table.
