Newcastle now top of the pile in two departments as brilliant Premier League stats emerge
It's been a strong start to the season at St James' Park, with Saturday's 5-1 win over Brentford meaning we ended the weekend in the top six following back-to-back wins.
That speaks for itself, along with the fact we've only been beaten once - thanks to a late goal at Anfield that shouldn't have stood - however a few more stats have emerged to highlight how good we've been.
As revealed by Newcastle United stat-man @nufcsanjay, we have conceded the joint least goals (9) in the Premier League and have completed more high turnovers (96) than any other side in the division, with two of these leading to goals in Saturday's big win!
Here's the full list, which also sees us rank highly when it comes to goals scored, xG (expected goals), xGA (expected goals against) and shots:
- 17 Goals Scored (5th)
- 9 Goals Conceded (=1st)
- 1.93 xG p90 (3rd)
- 1.08 xGA p90 (5th)
- +7.7 xGD (3rd)
- 53.1% possession (7th)
- 16 Shots p90 (4th)
- 96 high turnovers (1st)
Considering we've had injury issues - Saint-Maximin, Shelvey, Guimaraes, Wilson and Isak have all had periods on the sidelines - and a lack of luck with VAR or officials who've decided to add on a ridiculous amount of extra time, these stats, our place in the top six and the fact we've lost only once highlight what a strong start we've made under Eddie Howe.
After previously being a negative, unfit, passive and unorganised team under you know who, we've come a long way in the space of 12 months!
