Chris Sutton and Paul Merson release Newcastle predictions ahead of tonight's clash with Everton

Pundits Chris Sutton and Paul Merson are both expecting Newcastle to see off Everton at St James' Park tonight, with the pair predicting 2-0 wins for Eddie Howe's Mags.

Starting with Sutton, the BBC pundit feels we were 'a little unlucky' not to win at Old Trafford on Sunday, believing our team has a nice balance to it - praising our solid defence and ability to create chances at the other end.

He feels Everton will suffer another defeat here after losing back-to-back games against Man Utd and Spurs in their last two, although Merson thought they showed signs of promise in creating a couple of big opportunities before Kane broke the deadlock on Saturday.

Here's what the pair have had to say, starting with the Sky Sports pundit who's backing us to win most weeks these days...

Paul Merson's prediction for Sportskeeda:

'I thought Everton were a bit unlucky last week. They went to Tottenham with a gameplan, but you've got to make it count. You can't have the chances they had and then miss them. You're not going to get too many chances in an away game, and Everton should've scored in my opinion.

'I do like what Everton are doing at the moment, but they've got to put their chances away. Newcastle have played well under Eddie Howe and should be able to win this game.

Prediction: Newcastle United 2-0 Everton

Chris Sutton's prediction for the BBC:

'Newcastle were a little unlucky not to win at Old Trafford, and they seem to have found a good balance in their team.

'Defensively they are sound and they also had a few chances against Manchester United - you can see why they are in the top six, and they probably should have even more points than they do.

'Everton have lost their past two games and I can see them struggling here too.'

Sutton's prediction: 2-0
