Howe to make 3 changes? - Predicted Newcastle team to face Everton tonight

by Olly Hawkins · 19 October 2022, 10:31

After a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday, Newcastle return to St James’ Park later on to take on Frank Lampard's Everton.

Keeping injuries, recent form and tonight's opposition in mind, here’s the starting 11 we think Eddie Howe could go with come 7.30pm:

(4-3-3): Pope – Trippier, Schar, Botman, Targett – Joelinton, Guimaraes, Willock – Almiron, Wilson, Fraser.

Three changes. Burn, Longstaff and Murphy out, with Targett, Willock an Fraser returning to the side.

With Allan Saint-Maximin and Alexander Isak ruled out and Jonjo Shelvey not ready to start just yet, there's only so many areas where we'll be able to rotate - but I do see Matt Targett replacing Dan Burn at left-back.

The Geordie giant struggled to cope with Antony's pace at Old Trafford, was poor on the ball in our last home game and will have Gray or Gordon to cope with in this one, meaning Targett's fresh legs could be valuable here.

In midfield, Sean Longstaff's lack of pace could leave us vulnerable against the likes of Iwobi, Onana, Gray and Gordon - four players who could hurt us on the counter - so I can see the athletic and fit-again Joe Willock returning to Howe's XI in search of that goal his performances have deserved in recent weeks.

Out wide, Jacob Murphy has enjoyed a decent run in the side, however this feels like a good time to start one of Ryan Fraser or Elliot Anderson. The Scott has a good relationship with Callum Wilson and point to prove after dropping out of the side, giving him the edge over Anderson; who's proven he can make an impact from the bench.

How do you see us lining up tonight, folks?
