Newcastle set to confirm another new arrival as club accept offer for Eddie Howe's former player

Stockport’s head of goalkeeping Shwan Jalal looks set to join Newcastle United’s coaching team as Eddie Howe continues to build his backroom staff.

Speaking after Stockport announced his departure last night, Stockport’s director of football Simon Wilson revealed he was ‘proud’ to see the 39-year-old being scouted by one of the ‘top clubs’ and wishes him the best for the future after accepting an approach from an unnamed club.

The former Bournemouth shot-stopper had held his position at Stockport since March 2021, where he helped County’s goalkeeper Ben Hinchcliffe win two National League Golden Gloves, however he's expected to start his new role at Newcastle on Monday.

Jalal will be no stranger to Howe - the 6ft 2 man played for Bournemouth under our current head coach during the Cherries’ incredible rise through the football league. He spent six years with the Cherries – five of them under Howe – where he made 171 appearances, before retiring in 2020.

The Iran-born stopper was clearly a well liked character at the League Two side, playing a key role in their promotion from the National League last year, and should be a welcome addition to Howe’s backroom team following the departure of Simon Smith; previously our head of goalkeeping.

Here's confirmation of Jala's exit ahead of his proposed switch to St James' Park:
