Toon set to launch bid in excess of £7m for South American talent 'destined for the top' - Report

According to reports in Argentina, Newcastle United are showing serious interest in Velez Sarsfield star Maximo Perrone.

Journalist Agustin Sileo claims that we have come forward for the highly-rated 19-year-old and will submit a formal bid in the coming days following talks.

It's believed our offer will be in excess of £7m for the holding midfielder who's been described as 'wonderfully elegant' and 'destined for the top' following an impressive rise through the ranks in South America.

Perrone featured in 22 of 27 league matches last season, also playing a key role in Velez's run to the quarter final of the Copa Libertadores.

He represents Argentina at U20 level and could be the latest teenage gem Newcastle United are looking to recruit ahead of Garang Kuol's arrival in January.

With former Newcastle United midfielder Christian Bassedas currently the Sporting Director at Velez Sarsfield, it'll be interest to see how negotiations pan out if we really are pushing to sign the midfield sensation.
