Watch incredible 40-yard strike at St James’ Park that won FA Cup clash for NUFC Women - Video

by Andrew Reynolds ·

Newcastle United’s Women secured their place in the third round of the FA Cup after a stunning 40-yard strike from Sharna Wilkinson which was enough to seal the 2-1 victory over Barnsley.

In front of a crowd of over 28,000, defender Wilkinson scored what will likely go down as one of if not the greatest goal she will ever score in here career after she caught out Barnsley’s goalkeeper from about 40-yards out down the left-hand side.

Barnsley had taken the lead early on, but Becky Langley’s side coped well with being 1-0 down and after Georgia Gibson and Wilkinson saw their superb efforts find the back of the net in the second half, they left St James’ Park victorious.

Despite Toon supporters breaking a new record for the most fans at a women’s FA Cup game outside the final, the Lady Magpies dealt with the pressure very well and ultimately secured their place in the next round.
