Jamie Reuben's transfer message to Toon fans after Q&A session in Saudi Arabia

Following a Q&A session with fans in Saudi Arabia, Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben admitted that it will be ‘difficult’ to complete ‘big deals’ in January, but that we could make a move for the ‘right player’. 

With Newcastle in such a great position in the Premier League, many supporters are hoping to see further investment to help fast-track our push for European football - although it's not always that simple ahead of a notoriously tough January transfer window.

With our owners still working on deals to improve our commercial income for the future and aware of FFP constraints, freely available funds may be limited, for now, after spending just shy of £250m in the previous two windows. 

A deal for Leicester’s James Maddison has been regularly mentioned since we had two bids rejected for the midfielder in the summer, yet it appears this will be unlikely given Leicester’s poor position in the league.

However, Reubens comment suggests there could still be a big signing through the door next month should the right deal present itself. After all, who saw that club-record deal for Alexander Isak coming back in August?

Given our successful transfer record under the new regime, there’s plenty reason to have faith in our recruitment team; who could be given the green light to invest should our owners see potential for Champions League football in 2023.
