EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle could miss out on €10m bargain as Serie A giants eye January move

by Olly Hawkins ·

Inter Milan are leading the race to sign Marcus Thuram, despite interest from St James' Park.

Speaking exclusively to NUFC Blog, Football Transfers correspondent Jacque Talbot has revealed that the Serie A giants are currently at the front of the queue for the French international forward.

With the 25-year-old out of contract at the end of the season, we've also been told that "around €10m" could be enough to tempt Borussia Monchengladbach into a January sale.

The Bundesliga club would prefer to keep him until the summer, as he's currently their top scorer after bagging 13 goals in their opening 17 games. However, a winter sale could be on the cards to ensure they receive a fee for the soon-to-be free agent.

Howe is said to be a fan of his versatility - he can play up top or out wide - although it seems Inter Milan are currently his most likely destination, as things stand:

Here's what Jacque told the blog when we reached out for an update:

“Marcus Thuram is out of contract next summer and the expectation is that he’ll leave Gladbach.

"He’s got bags of personality, quite polarising by some accounts, having come from a footballing family.

"Eddie Howe would like his versatility, he can play a variety of positions, but I’m told is Inter who are the most likely.

"Gladbach would rather keen him until the summer when his time is up, but if it was a January move, it’s believed around €10m could tempt them.”
