Ex-Mag launches brutal rant at Gareth Southgate after England's World Cup exit
It's fair to say former Mag Joey Barton isn't a big fan of Gareth Southgate.
The former Newcastle United midfielder "can't believe" the England boss hasn't resigned following last weekend's devastating defeat to France in the quarter finals - a game the Three Lions lost 2-1 after Harry Kane blazed over from the spot.
Barton feels we must "stop rewarding failure" and find a replacement, believing England had the ability to win the last two World Cups and the Euros; which saw us lose to Italy in a heartbreaking penalty shoot-out defeat at Wembley.
Speaking to his 2.8million followers on Twitter, the Bristol Rovers boss said: "Can’t believe Southgate hasn’t resigned yet. That’s two World Cups and a home European Championship we could/should have won.
"Stop rewarding failure. Got to go. Time to hire somebody who can win. Pizza Hut advert years ago. Enough said."
Southgate is currently taking time away to decide on his next step ahead of the Euros in 2024, offering the clearest signal yet that he is considering walking away.
