Toon eyeing unsung hero from 2022 World Cup as scouts gather in Qatar - Report

by Andrew Reynolds ·

According to 90min, Newcastle are one of several clubs tracking Angers star Azzedine Ounahi following his impressive performances at the World Cup for Morocco.

Midfield partner Soyan Amrabat has won most of the plaudits, yet the 22-year-old has played an integral role in this Moroccan side, starting every game and helping them become the first African team to reach the semi-final stage of the tournament.

Ounahi joined French club Angers back in the summer of 2021, going on to be a key player and appearing 47 times, but could be set for a big move over the coming year after shining for the Atlas Lion in Qatar.

Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon have all been scouting the young star, while Premier League sides Newcastle, Leicester, Wolves, Southampton and West Ham are all monitoring his situation.

Ounahi has proven to be a versatile midfielder throughout his career, playing in a number of positions - something that may appeal to Eddie Howe should claims of our interest prove accurate.
