TalkSPORT 'breaking news' - Newcastle beaten to January deal by Premier League rivals

According to some 'breaking' news released by talkSPORT late last night, Chelsea look set to sign Brazilian wonderkid Andrey Santos after fending off interest from Newcastle.

The Toon have been heavily linked with the 18-year-old in recent months, but with such high interest from a host of big clubs around Europe, it was always going to be difficult to come out on top.

Santos has impressed during his time at Vasco de Gama, scoring eight times in 36 appearances and playing four times for Brazil's Under-20 side, who he has also captained.

Under their new ownership, Chelsea have proven that they are willing to splash the cash after spending £20m on Aston Villa youngster Carney Chukwuemeka, so it would be no surprise should they recruit yet another highly-rated teenager.

Should talkSPORT's update be correct, Dan Ashworth and the club's recruitment team will be forced to look elsewhere for the next big thing in midfield, with Argentine Máximo Perrone another who has been tipped to arrive on Tyneside.
