Italian media claim Newcastle have contacted Roma over January deal

According to reports in Italy, Newcastle have contacted Roma over the availability of midfielder Nicole Zaniolo, with Milan and Juventus also interested. 

The versatile 23-year-old has been played in multiple positions for Roma but has struggled to find consistency, raising questions over his future under manager Jose Mourinho. 

Zaniolo currently has 18 months left on his current deal and the Italian club could be looking to cash in on the former Inter man after it was revealed that talks over a new deal have stalled.

Sky Italy had previously reported that Newcastle had a bid rejected for the Italian international back in June, so there is definitely significant interest from our side, but it remains to be seen whether Zaniolo is keen on the move. 

The Magpies could certainly use more depth in our attack and the versatile player could be key to a Champions League push after he scored eight and assisted nine last season.
