Newcastle United trigger January clause as TWO Mags seal early return to Tyneside

Newcastle United have announced that Martin Dubravka and Matty Longstaff have both been recalled from loan spells.

Dubravka sealed a summer move to Manchester United - a switch that included a £6m obligation to buy should he make a certain number of Premier League starts, along with a recall clause that allowed us to bring the Slovakian back to Tyneside in the new year.

Today, the club have activated the latter, seeing the 33-year-ol return to St James' Park to 'provide further competition for Nick Pope', according to an official statement on NUFC.co.uk.

Elsewhere, Matty Longstaff's spell with Colchester United has been cut short after the midfielder suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in a Boxing Day win over Gillingham.

The 22-year-old will now undergo a rehabilitation period at his boyhood club, although it seems certain he won't play again in a black and white shirt, with his contract due to expire in six months time.

Martin Dubravka is eligible to face Sheffield Wednesday in next weekend's FA Cup clash, although it remains to be seen if he will sold or reintegrated into Eddie Howe's plans, raising questions about Loris Karius and Karl Darlow's future.
