Newcastle now ‘very interested’ in French international defender - Foot Mercato
According to Foot Mercato, Newcastle are ‘very interested’ in Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy.
The French outlet claims that PSG and Manchester City are also keen on the 27-year-old, but insists that the Magpies are ready to make an offer after following his situation for ‘a little while’ now.
The defender has spent the last three-and-half years in the Spanish capital after signing from Lyon back in 2019, making 123 appearances for the La Liga giants.
Mendy is under contract at Real Madrid until 2025, leaving them in no rush to sell, also starting each of the last five league games under Carlo Ancelotti; who is believed to be a fan of the full-back.
With Matt Targett (heel) set for a spell on the sidelines and Dan Burn limited from an offensive point of view, I can see us signing an attacking left-back in the coming windows. However, this seems like one to take with a pinch of salt, for now.
Mendy is a regular in Real Madrid's side and would likely cost much more than we're willing to spend in this department, considering FFP restrictions.
