Sky Sports: Player 'open' to Newcastle move and 'flattered' by interest as Toon hold talks

by Olly Hawkins ·

According to Sky Sports News, Real Valladolid right-back Ivan Fresneda is 'open' to joining Newcastle United this month.

They report that the club are in talks with the La Liga side over a January deal for the 18-year-old, claiming that the player is 'flattered' by the interest from St James' Park.

This comes after head of recruitment Steve Nickson was spotted watching the teenager in action last Friday, where he held his own against Vinicius Junior in a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid.

Speaking on Sky Sports earlier today, Spanish football expert Fernando Kallas claimed that Valladolid have already begun saying their goodbyes to the defender, stating a move to Tyneside is almost a 'done deal'.

It's thought the club are also 'keeping an eye' on West Ham's Harrison Ashby - who is out of contract at the end of the season - but it seems Fresneda may be our top target.

Newcastle believe the Spanish U18 international fits the bill and could eventually become a key player after learning from the experienced Kieran Trippier; who turns 33 later this year.
