Bruno Guimaraes injury update arrives on Monday night - Surprisingly good news?

A scan on midfielder Bruno Guimaraes’ ankle has ‘not shown any serious damage’ and that our ‘worst fears have been allayed’ following the injury he picked against Fulham, according to The Telegraph's Luke Edwards.

There were fears that the Brazilian could be out for a significant period of time after images of his injury and him being on crutches were circulating around social media. 

However, a scan on Monday has now revealed that our star player could be out for 'a week or two', with a clearer update expected to arrive in the next 72 hours.

With this in mind, he will miss Saturday's trip to Crystal Palace and seems unlikely to play in our semi-final first leg next week, however there's hope he'll be fit for the return leg at St James' Park on January 31st.

Bruno twisted his ankle during the first-half of Sunday's win, but hobbled on for the remainder of the half before he was replaced by Allan Saint-Maximin.

The 25-year-old was visibly upset to have picked up the knock, but hopefully the positive news continues over the next few days and we’ll have him back soon enough. Considering he was in tears and left St James' on crutches, this feels like a surprisingly promising news.
