Midfielder 'open' to Newcastle move as Toon wait for green light to launch bid - The Telegraph

As reported by The Telegraph, Newcastle 'will bid' Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this month should they receive encouragement to do so from Old Trafford.

Luke Edwards reveals that the Scottish international is well-liked by Eddie Howe's coaching team and 'open' to a January move to St James' Park.

The 26-year-old hasn't started a Premier League game since their 6-3 defeat at Man City back in October and is concerned by his lack of minutes under Erik ten Hag; who has favoured the likes of Fred and Eriksen alongside Casemiro in recent month.

Howe is on the hunt for a new defensive midfielder in this window but understands that it could be difficult to purchase someone of high profile due to a lack of funds. 

With McTominay seemingly out of favour at Old Trafford and potentially forcing his way out of the club, there may be a chance that he could be offered on a cut-price deal that suits us. 

It is not the glamorous signing that we might expect and his performances haven’t been anything to shout about in recent years, but he would certainly add depth to the squad and is known to give his full effort in every game.
