Newcastle official 'spotted in France' and Bruno Guimaraes' ex-teammate linked with Toon move

by Andrew Reynolds ·

Lorient striker Terem Moffi is the latest name to be linked with a potential move to St James' Park, while reports in France have tipped Newcastle to launch a 'big offer' for Lyon's Malo Gusto.

Football Insider report that Toon scouts were spotted in France to watch Lorient's 2-2 draw with Monaco last Wednesday, with Moffi the main focus for Newcastle officials in attendance.

The 23-year-old, whose contract lasts until 2024, netted his 11th goal of the season in the game, making him the second-top goalscorer in Ligue 1 behind PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Lorient have already rejected a £20m bid from Southampton for the Nigerian international. Given the arrival of a new striker is unlikely to be high on our priority list this month, he could well be someone we're monitoring as a long-term replacement for third choice striker Chris Wood?

As for Gusto, Foot Mercato report that Newcastle are ready to step up their interest in the French U21 international; who will know Bruno Guimaraes well from their time together at Lyon.

However, it's thought a summer move looks far more likely for the 19-year-old right-back, who may be allowed to leave for a 'minimum of €30m' at the end of the season.

Should we fail to land Real Valladolid's Ivan Fresneda, Gusto could be one to watch over the coming weeks and months?
