Sky Sports: Arsenal make contact with Newcastle target after missing out on Mudryk to Chelsea

Over the summer, Newcastle United were heavily linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby.

He appeared to be one of Eddie Howe's top targets in his ongoing search for a new winger, but The Athletic and The Telegraph both reported that we were unwilling to pay the £60m asking price placed on his head.

Six months on, Sky Sports News report that Arsenal have now joined the race for the French international.

They've revealed in the last few moments that the Gunners have 'made contact' with Leverkusen over a potential January move to the Emirates, with Arteta eager to sign a new winger after Chelsea hijacked their long-term pursuit of Mykhailo Mudryk.

However, it's believed the Bundesliga side have set a whopping price tag once again, with Sky Sports reporting that the 23-year-old won't leave this month unless someone meets their €100m (£89m) valuation.

So, it seems Diaby's valuation has gone up almost £30m since we held talks with Leverkusen over the summer - which is no surprise given he's delivered eight goals and four assists in 22 games this season.
