Toon trigger Loris Karius clause - Official Newcastle United statement

by Olly Hawkins ·

Newcastle United have confirmed that Loris Karius has signed a new deal on Tyneside.

After initially signing on a short-term deal in September last year, the club had an option to extend the German's contract until the end of the season.

Now, the club have confirmed in a Thursday morning update that the 29-year-old will be staying on Tyneside for the remainder of the season, suggesting we've triggered that extension clause in his contract.

Karius is yet to make a competitive appearance for the club, but did impress in last month's mid-season friendly with Al-Hilal, pulling off a string of superb saves in Saudi.

News of this extension could allow Karl Darlow to leave on loan, with our goalkeeping department currently stacked following Martin Dubravka's return from Manchester United.
