Everton set for U-turn in Anthony Gordon saga as Newcastle are sent new demands - Report

According to The Telegraph, Everton will reluctantly lower their asking price for Anthony Gordon to around '£40m including add-ons' - a big drop from the £60m demanded earlier this week.

Not only has their stance in negotiations been weakened now the winger is attempting to force through a move - he's missed training over the past three days - it seems the Toffees are in desperate need of cash.

The Telegraph's Matt Law reports that their financial struggles have left them needing to raise funds for their incoming manager, and Gordon is deemed their most saleable asset.

As a result, Newcastle are thought to be 'confident' of sealing a deal, believing Everton are now willing to accept a fee much closer to our valuation of the 21-year-old talent.

That said, it's not yet clear if the drop in asking price could see Chelsea make a 'last-gasp bid' for the winger; which could make sense from their perspective when they had a whopping £60m bid rejected over the summer.

While a fee in the region of £40m be more appealing, it still seems steep for an attacker who has recorded just three goal contributions in 18 games this season, with the England U21 international starting just once since the World Cup break.
