Fresh twist in James Maddison saga - Good news for Newcastle in pursuit of Leicester City star?
Last week, The Mail revealed that Man City were lining up a summer bid for long term Newcastle United target James Maddison.
After we opted against making a fresh bid for the Leicester City star in January, this felt like a potential blow in our bid to bring the England international to St James' Park in a few months time.
However, The Telegraph seem to have very different information on the 26-year-old, stating that Pep Guardiola's side have played down suggestions he could arrive at the Etihad.
Not only that, the Northern Echo report that Maddison has already been identified as a 'key target' ahead of the summer window, stating that a fresh bid is imminent now he's approaching the final 12 months of his contract at the King Power Stadium.
There's a long way to go and a lot of football to play between now and the end of the season, however it can only be good news for Newcastle United if Man City are not looking to rival our interest in the playmaker.
Here's what Howe recently told the press when asked if he already had summer signings in mind:
“We would have an idea (of summer targets), but that changes,” said Howe. “That can change in the blink of an eye. If you plan things right, you can look a few months ahead, but you always need to be reactive to what happens on a day-to-day basis as well.”
