Club plan exciting changes outside SJP as supporters submit fan zone requests - Some great ideas
As revealed by The Mail's Craig Hope yesterday, Newcastle United have bought back the Strawberry Place site that was previously sold by Mike Ashley.
It's been described as a 'major breakthrough' in our ongoing bid to expand the capacity at St James' Park, however, it seems the club are planning to create a fan zone directly behind the Gallowgate End while they consider their long-term options.
This would be an exciting new addition and has got Toon fans talking about what could be included should our new owners follow through on the proposed transformation outside the stadium.
Following a Twitter post from @NUFC360, here's some ideas Newcastle supporters have put forward:
A place for local food suppliers, drinks suppliers and merchandise to show support for the wonders that Toon folk bring.
Different sections, a big screen with highlights of the season/past seasons, an area for guest appearances (ex Newcastle players) + an area to drink/eat, shirt/programme sales. Full of black and white, banners/flags.
New club shop plus a small indoor retail market for local businesses such as @Geordie_Gifts, @alocalradgie etc, also @worflags, @AnarchyBrewCo maybe. An extension of Shearers, increased capacity and more screens. Be respectful to @theberrypub, involve them in the planning.
The stack. Bring it back, right there. Good food and drink before the match, big screen tvs to watch other games before going into the ground. Perfect.
I’ve heard mention of a club museum. I’m all for that too. The dream is a completely immersive experience, somewhere to spend a few hours, not just on match days. I’d love to take visiting family for a stadium tour followed by some nice food and a few drinks.
Maybe not feasible but a screen to watch the game for those not lucky enough to get tickets but want to feel the atmosphere.
Until an extension of the Gallowgate is started why don’t we put the @StackNewcastle there? Ran by the club with live music/food stalls and events on?
Local breweries selling decent beer and food local food vendors.
A stall area for all the fab little businesses on here that sell artwork/merchandise etc.
Big screens showing live football, a stage for live events, a club museum, Bobby and Shearer's statues both moved to fan zone ready for the stadium expansion and leave some space for future statues to be placed alongside them.
