Maddison has been a long-term target for the Magpies who will look to make him our marquee signing of the summer, but Spurs are hoping to persuade him to come to North London instead.

With the 26-year-old having less than 18 months on his current deal, Leicester are attempting to reopen talks over an extension, but it seems pretty clear that he is set on a move away.

This could make the battle for top four and Champions League football between Tottenham and Newcastle all the more pivotal, with Maddison likely to pursue a move that allows him to play at the highest level.
