Speaking to talkSPORT, Amanda Staveley has revealed that Newcastle’s owners were ‘humbled’ by the incredible support from Toon fans and has vowed to win a trophy for the Magpies.
Despite the loss, our co-owner couldn’t be prouder of how far this team has come in the last 12 months and made sure that her appreciation to the fans was known.
Staveley described the pre-match scenes at Wembley as ‘amazing’, admitting to shedding a tear or two at the display and claiming that ‘we don’t really deserve the support we have’.
On the display, Staveley said: “I was just so proud of all of the fans, everybody, and I was crying and my son was crying, we were all crying. What was amazing at two-nil down, flags going, there was a passion in everybody. Everybody has taken us on this journey.”
The level of support from the fans over the last 12 months has clearly had a huge impact on our group of owners who are intent on giving this team a trophy - and hopefully that means more investment this summer.
Staveley even went as far to say that ‘we will win the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League’ in time, but added that the most important part of the club is the fans and that they are ‘honoured’ to be here.
"We will win the Carabao Cup, we will win the FA Cup, we will the Champions League and we will win the Premier League. This is all about the amazing fans that have taken us on this journey, and we're just honoured and humbled and feel very privileged to help run Newcastle United.
“Staggered, really staggered. I was just in awe, I knew it would be amazing. I'm sorry, I really feel bad because I so wanted a win because I wanted them to have some silverware.
"It was important but we'll get there, but the lads played really well. It was a tough game, it was tough luck, and I'm proud of all of the fans and hugely proud of everybody today."
“We don't really deserve the support we have I always feel. As owners, we're very humbled by what's happened today. I know Yasir (Al-Rumayyan) has been here with me, we're just so excited that we got to come.
"The scenes in Trafalgar Square last night, everything. You know what? Next time, we will get there."
