Sky Sports: Newcastle target open to summer exit - Club 'ready to talk' if big offer arrives

by Olly Hawkins ·

Reporting for Sky Sports in Germany, journalist Marlon Irlbacher has issued an update on Moussa Diaby's future following long-term interest from Newcastle United.

He's revealed that Bayer Leverkusen are 'ready to talk' if a big offer arrives this summer, stating that the player himself is also open to a move away should a top club make a move.

It's believed a return to PSG is 'on his mind', but it remains to be seen if his head would turn should he be offered the chance to join this exciting new project at St James' Park.

Newcastle showed serious interest last summer, but Leverkusen appeared to stand firm on their asking price, while the player seemed in no rush to leave after securing Champions League football for 2022/23.

Although he is contracted to the club until 2025, things could be different this time. He's bagged a superb 11 goals and six assists so far, yet European football looks unlikely as Xabi Alonso's side currently sit 9th in the Bundesliga.

Here's what Sky Germany's Marlon Irlbacher has had to say on the 23-year-old's future:

“Moussa Diaby is the hottest personnel at Bayer Leverkusen next to Florian Wirtz."

“His contract is worth €50m until 2025, so there’s really no reason for Bayer 04 to sell him in the coming summer.

“But the fact is, and this is what we hear, that if a fantastic offer comes in, then Bayer 04 is ready to talk and he would not mind making a move to a top European club. A return to Paris is on his mind.”

With a new right-winger finally set to arrive this summer to compete with Miguel Almiron, Diaby feels like one to watch - but it's clear the ambitious winger won't come cheap.
