Official injury updates on Almiron, ASM, Wilson & Schar arrive from Eddie Howe - Good & bad news
Eddie Howe has revealed that Miguel Almiron is out for "six weeks" after pulling his thigh muscle in training, while Callum Wilson (illness), Allan Saint-Maximin (hamstring) and Fabian Schar (foot) should all be available after the international break.
Paraguay's manager suggested Miggy would be out for 'three weeks' when explaining why he wasn't called up to their squad on Friday afternoon. However, speaking after our 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest, Howe mentioned a six-week timeframe - meaning he may not play against until May.
There's also fresh concerns over Allan Saint-Maximin's fitness, as he was taken off at half-time due to a "tightness" in his hamstring, with Howe feeling he wasn't able to carry on or give his all physically. Hopefully no damage was done there, although his withdrawal did lead to a superb cameo for Elliot Anderson; who received real praise from Howe in his post-match interview.
The boss added that Callum Wilson wasn't risked as he "hasn't done a lot of training" following a period of illness, while Fabian Schar should be ready to "go again" after the break, with Howe confirming that he's been "carrying a foot problem" that saw him withdraw from the Switzerland squad.
Here's what Howe had to say on all of the above:
“Miggy pulled a thigh muscle in training. Unfortunately, it’s quite a bad one. It’s going to be six weeks.”
“Allan wasn’t quite right today, physically, I didn’t think. He’s been carrying a tight hamstring. I don’t think it’s a pull, it’s just a little bit of tightness. For me, it was obvious during that first half that he probably wouldn’t be able to carry on.
“I didn’t want to expose Callum today, he hasn’t done a lot of training, so I decided to go with Elliot and he repaid me, he did really well. Hopefully, we’ll have Callum and Maxi fit and available after the international break.
“Fabian’s been carrying lots of different things in the last few weeks. He’s been carrying a foot problem and also had concussion, so I think it’s just a chance for him to rest his body and go again.”
