Howe, Ashworth and Nickson agree on move for holding midfielder - The Telegraph
According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are preparing a summer bid for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
In his latest exclusive on our summer transfer plans, Luke Edwards reports that Eddie Howe, Dan Ashworth and head of recruitment Steve Nickson are all keen on the Scott, believing he'd add 'something different' to the squad.
Howe feels McTominay has the 'physical attributes to succeed in his system', seeing the 26-year-old as someone who could grow with the team, benefit from his training methods and add physicality, muscle and set piece threat to our side.
The Telegraph add that the player himself is 'open' to the move and impressed by our recent progress. He is behind the likes of Casemiro, Fred and Christian Eriksen in the pecking order and expected to pursue a move away from Old Trafford this summer; giving Newcastle encouragement to make a move after long-term interest.
Man Utd were unwilling to do business with us in January, seeing us as a direct rival to their top four hopes, but it remains to be seen if that stance will soften this summer.
The experts at Newcastle know more than me, however, I'd be dissapointed if McTominay is the No 6 we sign. After all, he's a squad player at a club we're trying to leapfrog...
