Newcastle set to receive player-plus-cash offer for Bruno Guimaraes - Report

by Andrew Reynolds ·

According to The Mirror, Manchester City are prepared to offer Kalvin Philips plus £80m for Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes.

It's claimed the current Premier League holders are also facing competition from Real Madrid in the battle for the Brazilian, though a recent report from The Telegraph indicated we had no intention of losing the midfielder this summer.

Following our 2-0 defeat at the Etihad just a few weeks ago, Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the 25-year-old - perhaps just planting the seed in his head of possibly working under the Spaniard.

£80m would easily be our record sale, giving us a huge amount to reinvest into the squad. We would also be getting a quality midfielder in Phillips, but it would be almost impossible to replace our star man. It's essential we keep him on Tyneside for as long as possible.

No doubt those at the top will be doing everything they can to retain the former Lyon man, with recent reports suggesting a new and improved contract has been discussed to ward off any interest.

With the Champions League within our reach and a long-term project set in place, it’s difficult to see why Bruno would be tempted to leave at all. Hopefully that stays true for the foreseeable future and no offer from the Etihad turns his head.
