Sources at Newcastle reveal six signings set to be prioritised by Eddie Howe this summer

by Olly Hawkins ·

After speaking to 'sources within the club', The Telegraph have revealed six positions Eddie Howe plans to strengthen this summer, naming a number of players identified as early targets.

The report states that the following areas will be targeted:

  1. A right-sided centre-back
  2. An attacking left-back
  3. A holding midfielder
  4. A creative midfielder
  5. A versatile wide forward
  6. A powerful striker

The piece then goes on to reveal a couple of players under consideration, with James Maddison, Ruben Neves, Scott McTominay, Conor Gallagher, Kieran Tierney all mentioned.

It's not yet clear of Arsenal will sell Tierney - who featured in their 4-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday - while Gallagher is a player we've tried to sign 'several times.'

Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga is also mentioned, but we're expected to face 'stiff competition' should we pursue a deal for the 20-year-old Spaniard.

No names are given when it comes to centre-backs, a wide forward or striker, although it's thought Howe wants another big man up top who can offer an aerial threat, hold up the ball and play alongside Isak.
