90th-minute drama seals perfect 72 hours for Newcastle as top-four rivals collapse again
The last few days really couldn't have gone any better for Newcastle United, as Spurs dropped two points at the death against Everton on Monday night.
The Premier League weekend started with Liverpool losing 4-1 at Man City, then we saw top-four outsiders Brighton draw 3-3 with Brentford.
We all know what happened on Sunday, where Eddie's Mags tore apart ten Hag's Man Utd to move up to third. However, we knew Spurs would go back above us if they beat relegation-threatened Everton on Monday night.
They took the lead in the second half, capitalising on a stupid red card from Abdoulaye Doucoure, yet they immediately sat deep and invited pressure from a 10-man Toffees, who equalised in the 90th minute thanks to a stunning long range strike from Michael Keane.
So, more dropped points from Spurs, another awful performance and a complete and utter collapse from a position of strength; just as they did in a 3-3 draw at Southampton a few weeks ago. They look completely lacking in character, lacking in ideas and totally reliant on one man.
The result means we remain third and ahead of Spurs on goal difference, only we have TWO games in hand on the North London side. Here's the table in full following their 1-1 draw:
