Newcastle now leading the race to sign 'superstar' ahead of big six rivals - Report

by Andrew Reynolds ·

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are now in 'pole position' to sign Leicester's James Maddison this summer.

Maddison's contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024 and he has already rejected 'multiple offers' to extend his stay at the King Power Stadium.

It's believed Newcastle chiefs regard the 26-year-old as a Premier League 'superstar' and hope he'll join this exciting new project at St James' Park, with Eddie Howe identifying him as a top target.

Spurs have also shown strong interest, while Man City and Liverpool have been 'keeping tabs' on his situation, making our push towards a top-four finish potentially pivotal in our pursuit of the England international.

It is believed that a fee in the region of £60m will be enough to secure the attacking midfielder, although some wonder if that price may come down now he's entering the final 12 months of his contract in the East Midlands.

Leicester currently sit 19th in the Premier League having just sacked Brendan Rodgers and will face an almost impossible challenge in persuading the England international to remain at the club.
