Newcastle hope to sign England U21 captain after outstanding loan spell - Report

by Andrew Reynolds ·

As reported by 90min, Newcastle have shown a 'strong interest' in Man City defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis who is currently out on loan at Burnley.

The 21-year-old is enjoying a great season in the second division as The Clarets look destined to secure the Championship title in a matter of weeks and make their return to the top flight.

Harwood-Bellis captains England Under-21s and has racked up over 100 games at senior level following loan spells at Blackburn, Anderlecht, Stoke and Burnley.

With a contract that is set to expire next summer, Man City are keen to tie their young star down long-term, but the centre-back is said to still be considering his options.

Harwood-Bellis is fully aware that should he stay in Manchester, he would be way down the pecking order and unlikely to feature heavily due to the abundance of talent that City possess.

Burnley and Vincent Kompany are thought to be eager to bring the England youth international back to the club next season, but will face stiff competition from Newcastle as we look to bolster our defence.
