If these Scott McTominay claims are true, we'll surely walk away from Man Utd midfielder...

by Andrew Reynolds ·

According to an 'exclusive' the Daily Star, Newcastle have been told to pay a staggering £50m to secure the services of Man United’s Scott McTominay.

The Telegraph recently revealed that Eddie Howe was set on a summer move for the midfielder, but for a fee that would see him become our second most expensive signing of all time, it would surely be a non-starter.

For Man United, the 26-year-old has started just 10 times this season and was out of favour for Erik ten Hag prior to the injury of Christian Eriksen and suspension of Casemiro.

For a cut-price fee, McTominay could be a useful squad addition next season, particularly with a European campaign on the horizon, as he can play in a few positions and has plenty of experience.

However, it would surely be a huge mistake to spend so much of our budget on a player who is struggling for minutes for a team we are currently trying to compete with and overtake in the near future.

If Man Utd are going to make life difficult again - like they did when we attempted to sign Jesse Lingard 18 months ago - we should walk away immediately and pursue superior alternatives.
