French media claim Newcastle made £50m offer for Ligue 1 star before horror injury
Some big claims have emerged from French outlet L'Equipe this week regarding Newcastle's interest in Rennes star Martin Terrier.
They report that we offered just over £50m for the prolific winger last summer after he bagged an outstanding 21 goals and seven assists over the 2021/22 season.
12 months later, L'Equipe claim there's an element of regret at Rennes that they rejected our lucrative proposal, as the 26-year-old ruptured a cruciate ligament in his knee in January; an awful injury that's left him ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.
It's clear Newcastle are still in the market for a winger, with the likes of Moussa Diaby and Harvey Barnes linked in recent weeks, but I'd be surprised if we rekindled our interest in Terrier after such a serious injury.
Nevertheless, talk of a £50m bid backs up suggestions we're ready to spend big on another winger, with Terrier one of the most free-scoring wide men in Europe at the time of our alleged offer.
Who would you like to see us target if we had this sort of money available for another wide man?
