“I am not happy” - Newcastle United star reveals fitness concern ahead of Aston Villa clash

by Andrew Reynolds ·

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has revealed that he's still suffering with a recurring ankle issue and is ‘not happy’ despite completing 90 minutes on Saturday.

The Brazilian pulled up in some pain during the warm-up before our 2-1 win over Brentford, raising fears that he'd be forced to be taken out of the starting lineup.

However, the 25-year-old was able to play through the pain barrier, delivering a superb performance in the second half as we turned the game on its head at the Gtech. He's been key to all three of our victories over the past week or so, but it's a concern heading into our final nine games that his ankle is still not right.

The plan is for the former Lyon star to get some rest and ‘see what he can do’ after the season concludes, so it’s a credit to him that he can still perform at the highest level even when not fully fit.

Speaking to the Shields Gazette about the issue, he had this to say ahead of Saturday's trip to Aston Villa:

“In the warm-up I twisted my ankle so now I get some time to rest. I don't know if I can say it but it is p****** me off with my ankle.

"I need to get some rest and see at the end of the season what we can do, but I am not happy with my ankle.”
