Sky Germany: Newcastle considering bargain move for Bundesliga midfielder

by Olly Hawkins ·

According to new reports, Newcastle United have been showing interest in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kerem Demirbay.

This comes from Sky Germany, who claim that we've been 'closely monitoring' the 29-year-old following his impressive performances in the Bundesliga this season.

Demirbay is approaching the final 12 months of his contract at Leverkusen, meaning a 'transfer is likely' this summer. A fee of just '€4-5m' could be enough to prise him away, representing a potential bargain for a German international who can operate as a holding or central midfielder.

He’s bagged four goals and three assists from 29 appearances this season and has helped Xabi Alonso's side reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League, where they'll play Belgian side Union SG this week.

With us showing long-term interest in teammates Moussa Diaby and Mitchell Bakker, you wonder if Demirbay may have caught the eye when we've sent scouts to watch the pair?

Either way, it looks like Newcastle will bring in at least one midfielder this summer, with a new No 6 and replacement for Jonjo Shelvey likely to arrive.
