Lucky escape for Newcastle as striker who rejected Toon move spits his dummy out
It appears Newcastle made a lucky escape not signing Hugo Ekitike last summer based on the striker's latest antics at PSG.
The 20-year-old rejected a move to Tyneside in 2022 and instead joined the Ligue 1 club, but now appears to have spat his dummy out after starting just eight times this season, recently changing his Instagram bio to ‘Sub 44’ due to a lack of playing time.
L'Equipe even report that the French giants are already looking to offload the youngster this summer. It remains to be seen if they really will give up on him that quicky, but his latest antics won't help his cause.
With a front line of Neymar, Mbappe and Messi, it’s difficult to understand the youngster’s frustration and how he ever expected to be playing regular first-team football in Paris. After all, we all said this would happen when he turned us down to be a bench-warmer at PSG.
It was reported that Newcastle came so close to securing the Frenchman, but after his rejection, we opted to go for Swedish forward Alexander Isak - and what a blessing in disguise that was.
With Isak scoring for fun at the moment - four in his last four and eight in his 13 Premier League appearances - it feels like it was a real bullet dodged to have missed out on Ekitike.
