Bookies update top-four odds after big weekend for Newcastle, Man U, Spurs, Brighton and Villa

by Olly Hawkins ·

It was a big weekend in the top-four race. It all kicked off with a dismal 3-0 defeat at Aston Villa, yet the damage of that loss was eased as Spurs were beaten 3-2 by Bournemouth just a few hours later.

On the flip side, Aston Villa's win leaves them six behind us having played a game more, while Brighton's 2-1 victory over Chelsea brings them back into contention, moving the Seagulls seven behind us with a game in hand.

Man Utd won 2-0 at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, leapfrogging us in third and leaving the bookies almost certain of a top-four finish at odds of 1/9. Liverpool now sit nine behind us after last night's 6-1 win at Leeds, meaning they're priced at 11/2; shorter odds than Spurs despite being six points adrift.

As you can see below, we are still heavy favourites (1/3), alongside Man Utd, to maintain our place in the top-four, with Brighton also edging above Spurs after their big win at Stamford Bridge.

Here's the latest odds via Sky Bet in the race for Champions League football, followed by the Premier League table:

  1. Man Utd - 1/9 (1.11)
  2. Newcastle - 1/3 (1.33)
  3. Brighton - 9/2 (5.50)
  4. Liverpool - 11/2 (6.50)
  5. Tottenham - 6/1 (7.00)
  6. Aston Villa - 33/1 (34.00)
