Newcastle officials visit relegated club as owners close in on first of many investments - Report

Last month, co-owner Amanda Staveley confirmed that Newcastle United were pushing ahead with plans to build a multi-club model.

Today, an intriguing report has emerged from Het Nieuwsblad  - one of the leading outlets in Belgium - who claim that a delegation of Newcastle officials visited KV Oostende earlier today with a view to buying the up-for-sale club.

They add that we have 'concrete' interest in a potential purchase and have moved ahead of Bournemouth and Wolves; two clubs who've also been eyeing the recently relegated Belgians.

It's believed club representatives took a close look at the stadium and training ground during the visit, with Het Nieuwsblad reporting that a purchase seems 'very likely.'

French side Dijon and Poland's Slask Wroclaw have also been linked, but it seems KV Oostende could be the first of several to join our multi-club network.

Here's what Stavelet had to say about our investment plans when speaking at the Financial Times’ Business of Football summit last month:

“We’re looking at everything in terms of how we grow Newcastle United, our brand and club. We have looked at multi-club, but you have to make sure you have right fit. We also make sure you choose your territory correctly, get the right chemistry and critical you set out what your goals are.

“It’s complicated and we’re also looking at another structure. Maybe something a little bit different that gives us more opportunity to work with a lot more clubs (without buying stakes in them). That’s at a quite early stage, so we’re just looking.

“I think anybody who is looking to buy any club is going to be looking at that multi-club model.”
