Sky Italy: Newcastle set to launch summer bid for another Dutch defender

Some big claims have emerged from Sky Italy's Gianluca Di Marzio this morning concerning Newcastle's interest in Torino's Perr Schuurs.

He reports that we are preparing to launch a formal bid for the centre-back this summer, revealing that ourselves and Liverpool are both big fans of the 23-year-old.

Schuurs played in the same Ajax Academy as Sven Botman and has often partnered his fellow Dutchman in the Netherlands' U21 side, so the pair will know each other very well.

The 6ft 3' defender only joined Torino last summer for a fee in the region of €14m and has enjoyed an impressive debut season in Serie A, attracting interest from a host of Premier League clubs and bumping up his future price tag in the process.

Di Marzio seems to think an offer is imminent from Newcastle, so this could well be one of several right-sided centre-backs on our radar as we look to bring in competition for Fabian Schar. Another one to watch?
