Toon scouts spotted watching exciting No.10 after stunning recovery from ACL injury - Report

by Andrew Reynolds ·

According to The Mail, Newcastle sent scouts to watch Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Florian Wirtz not once but TWICE last week.

The 19-year-old is widely regarded as one of the hottest talents in the Bundesliga and wouldn't come cheap, with Leverkusen desperate to keep a hold of the teenage sensation.

It's believed Newcastle talent spotters watched him score a superb goal in their Europa League clash with St Gilloise last Thursday, then were in the stands for their league game at Wolfsburg on Sunday afternoon.

Despite suffering a horrific ACL injury last year that kept him out for almost eight months, Wirtz has come back better than ever, bagging four goals and eight assists in 17 games for Leverkusen this season.

The German has also represented his country six times, so comes with a wealth of experience even at such a young age. He predominantly operates as a No.10, but has also played on the left or in a false nine role.

Who knows, perhaps Wirtz caught our eye during trips to watch Moussa Diaby; his Leverkusen teammate and another exciting attacker we've been heavily linked with in recent weeks.

He wouldn't come cheap, but it would be a real statement intent to see us sign one of THE most promising young talents in world football. Here's the goal he scored in front of Newcastle scouts last week:
